The first time I tried turmeric was when we were working on our ebook and we prepared the recipe for a golden milk. Today I bring you this recipe to prepare a turmeric and mango smoothie bowl.
Turmeric is a plant and its roots are what is consumed in the kitchen. One option is to use directly its fresh root but it can also be found as a powder and it has a yellowish color. This spice has become famous thanks to its qualities. In fact it has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, improves digestion avoiding flatulence and it’s a potent protector for the liver.
It seems that the human body does not easily absorb turmeric, but its absorption improves if it is taken together with black pepper.
Since I find it a bit difficult to introduce turmeric into my daily recipes I thought that a simple option it would be to use it in a smoothie bowl. A small recommendation, be careful when you use this spice because it will stain everything!
Depending on the consistency you would like to get when preparing your smoothie, it is advisable to use frozen fruit. For example, in this tricolor smoothie with spinach that I published a few months ago, I used frozen fruit because I needed a very dense consistency so that the colors could keep separated.
I personally prefer not to ingest cold foods or drinks, so in this smoothie bowl I used the fruit at room temperature. Also, thanks to the oatmeal we are going to add to this recipe, you get enough consistency so that the toppings stay on the surface and do not sink before you start eating your smoothie bowl.
As I told you in my apple porridge recipe, oats are an ideal ingredient for breakfast because it helps increase the feeling of satiety and reduce hunger. Mainly for this reason I have also added it to this smoothie bowl which, in my opinion, is ideal for a weekend brunch or a treat when we fancy something sweet. I’m personally not in favour of having a smoothie every day, but we will talk about my reasons in another post. Meanwhile, I hope you’ll enjoy this turmeric and mango smoothie bowl. In the video you can see how easy it is to prepare it.
